Point Cook members took part in one of their more smelly operations recently after waste at Werribee tip went up in smoke.

Firefighters were called to the landfill site at Wests Road in Werribee just after 5pm on Friday January 27 after reports of large plumes of black smoke.

Eighteen CFA and MFB vehicles and council water tankers and excavators took 2 hours to bring the fire under control.

Water was pumped from a dam near the site to help extinguish the rubbish fire.

CFA brigades involved were: Caroline Springs, Hoppers Crossing, Lara, Little River, Melton, Point Cook, Rockbank, Truganina, Werribee, and Wyndham Vale.
